Hospital OS is a research and development project for a Hospital Management Software to support small rural hospitals in Thailand. It is financially supported by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF). "Hospital OS" is also used as the name of the software.
What is the development concept for Hospital OS software?
The development concept is to be an open source software, which means that the source code of the software can be downloaded for use by anyone. Hospital OS also promotes the programmer or system administrator to assist each other in solving any issue that arises through the online community.
Hospital OS created a community online, which consists of Thai member hospitals from all over the country of Thailand, allowing them to communicate and help each other via the website at www.hospital-os.com.
It is a Client- Server software in which the server works as a central unit that stores all of the information and the clients are the units that feed the information into the server.
What language is used to develop the client software and operating system?
The client software is developed by using Java and it can be used with Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Linux and other operating systems that have Java Virtual Machine installed.

Some of the reports use Microsoft Access 2000 in which the database is linked through ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) while others use Office TLE (Thai Language Edition) to link the database with ODBC or JDBC (Open Database Connectivity or Java Database Connectivity).
